if you’ve been paying attention to fashion, you may have noticed a recent uptick in the deployment of patterned tights to complete an outfit
i’m not complaining because (1) they’re a great way to elevate any outfit and add a little fun, and (2) it’s been cold as balls. Although in terms of warming you up, they’re the hosiery equivalent of LDR on Snow on the Beach.. it’s there, but it’s not contributing much
below are four examples of how to style patterned tights to give you a little inspo
With a Mini Skirt and Tank
If it seems like we’re obsessed with Devon Aoki’s 2000s style, it’s because we’re obsessed with Devon Aoki’s 2000s style. Here, she’s walking for Baby Phat in a denim micro mini, patterned lace tights, and a simple white tank. If the denim skirt is TOO 2000’s for you, swap this look out for a black mini to update it
With a Long Sleeve Minidress
It doesn’t actually have to be long sleeve – really any minidress will do. But here Ashley pairs sheer tights with a bow pattern with a black long sleeve dress. We lowkey love the fact that the dress has it’s own pattern going, which brings us to another tip on how to style these types of tights – do not be afraid to mix patterns! One of our writers recently wore floral patterned tights with a leopard print vintage mini slip dress and it could not have looked better.
With an Oversized Blazer
Here Matilda pairs here floral tights with an oversized black blazer dress. The tights add some fun to the polished look of the blazer and tie together the look really well. We’d recommend pairing this with some slingback or regular pumps – maybe in an unexpected color
In a Pop of Color
We LOVE these periwinkle tights, and very much approve finding a pair of tights in an unconventional color. Here it’s paired with a midi dress in a similar color, or pair it with a dress in a neutral color – preferably something with a slit to show a bit of the tights pattern every now and then
With a Slip Dress
Slip dresses are another great way to style sheer patterned tights. Wear it with an oversized blazer and slip dress as shown here, or if it’s warm enough – ditch the blazer entirely.
