Go Get That Bag – 4 Vintage Handbags to Thrift

if you’re looking to purchase a designer bag and either 1) want something a little different, and 2) haven’t yet met your sugar daddy and don’t want to spend all your money, I would recommend thrifting a vintage purse. There are plenty on the market, often in great condition, and with online retailers like The RealReal and even certain bags on eBay, you can be sure that what you’re purchasing has been authenticated.

below are 4 vintage bags to kick off your search. Happy thrifting!

Gucci Jackie (in floral if possible)

I’m calling it right-fucking-now, the Gucci Jackie is going to have a moment. Named for Jackie Kennedy, frequent-wearer of this purse in the 60s, it’s a simple elegant mid-sized shoulder bag. Personally we recommend adding some versatility by buying the floral version of this bag (which you should be able to find by searching “Gucci Jackie floral” <- which you probably didn’t need us to tell you)

Louis Vuitton Looping Bag

Okay so admittedly, I’m a little biased. My boyfriend bought me this bag early on when we were dating. Once I got over my shock at the fact that he had picked it out himself, I ended up really loving the bag. It’s a great size, and fits deceivingly more than you would expect. It feels sturdy, and it’s been spotted on Emrata, Bella Hadid, Elsa Hosk, and more. This bag debuted in 2002 and has since been discontinued, making it really popular on the resale market.

Balenciaga City Bag

I will say, I’m not 100% sure what the rules are around buying Balenciaga these days BUT I think if you’re buying second-hand and not directly from them it’s okay?? Anyway, with the rapid-fire spread of the Le Cagole, a vintage City Bag is a perfect way to get that moto-inspired look at a much lower price point. I also happen to own a Le Cagole, and it doesn’t hold very much.. just saying. For those who don’t remember, or God-forbid weren’t alive yet, the City bag was a defining bag of the 2000s and still holds up to the test of time.

Dior Columbus

We can’t overstate how much we love this bag. As mentioned earlier, with the rise of the Le Cagole we’re seeing a surge of popularity in styles that harken back to the punk elements of 2000s style. Designed circa 2002, back when John Galliano was still at Dior, this bag is such a perfect mix of structured elegance and edge. We have this on our wishlists, and are waiting for the perfect excuse to purchase one a promotion, year-end bonus, … Wednesday???
